Project Astra by Gemini Live

Google just announced an expanded rollout of Gemini Live's “Project Astra” capabilities, introducing real-time visual AI features to more Android devices and offering new ways to engage with the AI via video and screen sharing.

The details:

  • The feature enables users to hold multilingual conversations with Gemini regarding anything they observe or hear through their phone’s camera or by sharing their screen.

  • The feature is launching today for all Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 devices, with Samsung including it at no extra charge for their flagship customers.

  • Initial testing showed the current "live" feature functions more like enhanced Google Lens snapshots rather than the seamless video analysis presented in demonstrations.

  • Project Astra was first unveiled at Google I/O last May, with the feature debuting last month for Advanced subscribers.

OpenAI Plans to Acquire AI Hardware Company - IO Products

OpenAI is reportedly in discussions to acquire io Products, a stealthy AI hardware startup founded by former Apple design chief Jony Ive and backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, with a potential valuation exceeding $500 million.

The details:

  • Io Products is said to be working on AI-driven personal and home devices, including a concept for a “screenless phone.”

  • Ive and Altman have been collaborating for over a year, with Altman deeply involved in product development and the duo aiming to raise $1 billion.

  • Several high-profile former Apple executives—such as Tang Tan (formerly head of iPhone hardware design) and Evans Hankey—have joined the venture.

  • The device is reportedly being built by io Products, designed by Ive’s studio LoveFrom, and powered by OpenAI’s AI technology.

Microsoft Supercharges Copilot with Memory, Web Actions, and Vision Features

Microsoft has launched a major Copilot upgrade, introducing memory functions, web-based actions, visual capabilities, and a suite of new tools aimed at deeper integration into users' digital routines.

The details:

  • Copilot can now retain past conversations and personal information, building personalized profiles that adapt to user habits, preferences, and key details.

  • New “Actions” features allow Copilot to complete tasks on the web—like booking reservations or buying tickets—through collaborations with major platforms.

  • Copilot Vision enables real-time camera usage on mobile devices, while a native Windows app now lets it analyze on-screen content across different applications.

  • Additional productivity tools include Pages for organizing research and ideas, an AI-powered podcast creator, and Deep Research for handling more advanced research tasks.
