GPT 4.1 - A Pre-Cursor to OpenAI’s Agentic Software Engineer?
OpenAI has launched GPT-4.1, a new family of models designed specifically for developers, available exclusively via API. These models bring major upgrades in coding skills, instruction adherence, and can handle up to 1 million tokens of context.

Key highlights:
The lineup includes GPT-4.1, 4.1 mini, and 4.1 nano, all of which outperform GPT-4o in core development tasks.
Each model supports 1M token context, enough to load 8 full React codebases, and they're also 26% cheaper than GPT-4o for common use cases.
In real-world applications like frontend development, testers preferred GPT-4.1’s outputs over GPT-4o 80% of the time.
Pricing is lower across the board, with GPT-4.1 nano being OpenAI’s fastest and most affordable model to date.
GPT-4.1 sets new benchmarks in coding, instruction following, and long-context understanding—scoring 54.6% on SWE-bench, 38.3% on MultiChallenge, and 72.0% on Video-MME, outperforming GPT-4o across the board.
GPT-4.1 (and -mini and -nano) are now available in the API!
these models are great at coding, instruction following, and long context (1 million tokens).
benchmarks are strong, but we focused on real-world utility, and developers seem very happy.
GPT-4.1 family is API-only.

Google’s DolphinGemma Decodes Dolphin Talk with Lightweight AI
Google’s DolphinGemma, a lightweight AI model based on Gemma, decodes dolphin vocalisations using decades of Wild Dolphin Project audio, enabling sound generation and analysis on Pixel smartphones.

The Details:
DolphinGemma uses a 400M-parameter Transformer to process dolphin clicks and whistles, trained on 40 years of Wild Dolphin Project recordings.
It generates realistic dolphin sounds and detects patterns, running efficiently on Pixel 6 and soon Pixel 9 devices.
Integrated with CHAT, it supports real-time dolphin mimic detection, enhancing field research with minimal hardware.
Set for open-source release this summer, it’s adaptable for other cetaceans, broadening bioacoustic research access.
SSI Raises $2B at $32B Valuation to Build Safe Superintelligence
Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI)—the AI startup co-founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever—has reportedly raised $2 billion at a $32 billion valuation, making it one of the most valuable startups just months after its launch.

Key points:
The funding round was led by Greenoaks (contributing $500M), with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners and Andreessen Horowitz, according to the Financial Times.
Reuters reports that Alphabet and Nvidia are also backing SSI, though their exact investment amounts are undisclosed.
SSI is solely focused on developing superintelligence beyond human-level AGI, while prioritising safety above all else.
Sutskever previously described their mission as climbing a “different mountain,” suggesting a novel path in AI research.
